Yellowstone Bison Rut and Fog August 15, 2018
I couldn’t figure out why I was so cold when I got out of the sleeping bag in the morning — until I checked the temperature in the truck. 30 degrees! That’s the coldest I have ever tent camped and can’t believe I slept in complete comfort. I had my downmat on the bottom, my 30 degree down sleeping bag in a fleece bag, and a new down camping blanket on top. So glad I got the down blanket because I was cold in June at 37 so I’d have been miserable at 30 without it.
Herd of bison crossing the road. Note there were people out of their vehicles along the side of the road with bison walking within feet of them. There just isn’t any stopping stupid.
Since it was so cold, the fog coming off the Yellowstone River was gorgeous, but also made for treacherous driving. At the end of the video you can see the bison pair I’d been watching.
Last day to see the bison pair and still nothing happening.
Very foggy Yellowstone River
This is what the road looked like for driving.
Gull Point Drive while driving south out of Yellowstone.
Very smoky Oxbow Bend in Grand Teton. I could barely see Moran.
