North Cascades July 20 to September 30

I left Yellowstone (more accurately I fled Yellowstone like my pants were on fire) when I found out there was a position available at North Cascades National Park in the visitor center. What a relief to be back to Visitor Services.

Suspension bridge over Skagit River in the town of Newhalem

Entrance sign on Highway 20. Not sure why it says North Cascades since 20 only goes through Ross National Recreation Area and not North Cascades National Park.

I loved the grouse that hung out around the visitor center

Pink Salmon in the Skagit – glad I can’t really see them. They were starting to decay since spawning upriver in the last act of their lifespan. This seemed very sad to me. They work so hard to get upstream to reproduce, consuming most of their body, and then hang around to die and rot.
