Lamar Valley
Not a lot of pictures, but I had a great morning in Lamar Valley. I enjoyed wildlife viewing through my new binoculars and scopes that others were kind enough to let me peak through, instead of through the camera lens.
Started off with a very careful, tentative group of elk cows that were moving through the the sagebrush constantly stopping to sniff the air.
I moved east through the valley watching a grizzly sow and her two cubs and a black bear that was on a mission to get somewhere. Further down the valley a wolf pack was steadily making it’s way west with the leader out in front, followed by two who were not to far behind, and a fourth wolf trailing quite way to the rear. The wolves also seemed to be on a mission to get somewhere and it was fun listening to people theorize about what was motivating them.
While being completely engrossed in watching the bears a bison quietly walked up and was very close before any of us realized it was there. We quietly walked to the other side of the vehicle so we had the car between us and the bison.
While driving I saw marmots and chipmunks along the road, hundreds of bison and several pronghorn out in the fields, and more black bears off in the trees. It was an amazing morning.
