Fall in Port Aransas
I spent the time from selling the house until the end of September in Sanger, Tx getting settled into my trailer and getting my storage area organized as well. I couldn’t part with all my possessions so it’s all meticulously packing into a 10′ x 10′ space.
My planned fall volunteer position was a bust. I decided working for a micro-managing Nurse Ratchet who was totally lacking in empathy was no way to spend my winter so I cut my losses and plan on spending time in Port A until I can line up a volunteer alternative. Crushing disappointment to have my first experience not work out, but it was one thing to be treated like crap when I was paid — it’s a whole different thing to get treated like that when you’re working for free.
Even my plans for next summer have taken an unexpected turn. I’ve been thinking NORTHWEST all along. Suddenly an ad came up for Acadia National Park for a job doing exactly what I love. I absolutely adore Maine, so if that works out I wouldn’t hesitate to spend a summer up there. I can do the Northwest next year.
I would love to go to North Cascades National Park, which was actually my #1 pick for summer 2017. I have also talked to a campground company for Estes Park in Rocky Mountain National Park. Plus talking to a number of back up places just in case.
It’s sort of weird to be retired and working the whole resume and applying for position grind. My hope is to get established so this becomes less stressful. Right now, it’s very worrisome that I might end up with no place to go. As a single, many, many places want couples only and won’t even talk to singles. It’s unexpected to find this is such a stumbling block.
In the meantime I will be doing some of my favorite things in Port Aransas, TX: watching for dolphin, pelicans, herons, sea turtles, and all the other wonderful shore life. I am going to create individual posts for the great things I find here.
And I’m waiting very impatiently for it to COOL DOWN. Right now, on November 3rd the heat index is 97 degrees. Sheesh. Way to hot for me to be out mid-day so I’m praying for a cool down.
