Edisto State Park and storms that evening
We ran out to Edisto in the morning. I loved the beach front resort area. Everyone riding bikes or walking, cool beach houses.
Edisto State Park is split into two sections. The beach and not-so-beautiful beach camping. A short distance away is the area with numerous trails through forest and a campground that buries each site in the trees where they have all day shade.
The evening was interesting as severe storms and a tornado came very near where I was camped. It was so bad I loaded the dogs into the Xterra and drove to a bank where we rode out the storm parked under there drive through canopy along with a couple other vehicles (the bank was closed). Fortunately the tornado missed us. Without question I heard the loudest cracks of thunder that I have ever heard in my entire life. Thought I was going to have to peel all three of us off the ceiling a couple times. Ellie doesn’t like thunder and I was amazed at how well she handled it all.
The beach at Edisto was so different from Hunting Island — dirtier with debris, steeper, and much stronger surf. The dogs got a rude awakening when they ran into the water and were promptly rolled on the sides and thrown up on the beach. I could tell Nikki wasn’t wild about it, but not about to be shown up by the younger Ellie. Ellie, whose is uncontrollably insane about water kept running back in and getting thrown on the beach and could have cared less. It was water and that’s all she cared about.
I did like that it was an active breeding area for loggerhead turtles and they were actively protecting their nests.
