Dog day at Cumberland Gap National Park
Temps finally in the 70’s so I decided it was a good day to take off for Cumberland Gap National Park. It’s only a 50 minute drive from the house and it was too nice to not take advantage of a gorgeous day. Who am I kidding? I’ve been beating the whole kitchen cabinet update project to death and we needed to get out. I sprayed sunscreen on Nikki’s still fairly hairless back and we head out.
In a brief few minutes we were in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. We were stopped at the tunnel going through the Gap while large trucks were escorted alone through the tunnel.
After repeated walks at the one and only place to walk (Cove Lake State Park) the dogs were beside themselves when we arrived at a new place to sniff, pee, poop, and visit. There were several walking paths and trails.

Nikki and Ellie on fitness trail — not the hair on Nikki’s back still hasn’t grown back over two months after the injury. Who would have thought it would take that long for hair to grow? I’m putting sunscreen on it to protect her from getting burned.
Sign for parking for Daniel Boone Trail — this is the trail that follows part of the 200 mile trail Daniel Boone and 35 axmen cleared for settlers to get to the area. Can you imagine? Cutting 200 miles of trees and stumps with hand tools to make a road?
We’ve walked, we’ve checked out the town of Cumberland Gap, and are ready to head back home. Aren’t they pretty girls?
