Cumberland Gap National Park
I just got back from a trip to Tennessee trying to find out more about my dad’s childhood and managed to fit in a little sight seeing after spending hours at Campbell County Historical Society.
I drove from LaFollette to the park one afternoon after 4:00 and entered the park at 5:00. Tuesday night at 5:00 and I didn’t see one care on the way up to or back down from the Pinnacle overlook. It was pretty glorious having the spectacular view from the top all to myself.

There was so much nature to see in the area — the Cumberland trail, Norris Dam and Lake, South Fork National Recreation area. I want to go back to do some hiking and check out more of those areas, but locals did warn me to be on the lookout for snakes. They’re plentiful and poisonous. Ugh.
