Since I was sent to rove Diablo Lake Overlook (make visitor contacts) I had the opportunity to get pictures under a variety of conditions. Diablo Lake, fed by glaciers that add suspended mica to the water, is spectacular in late summer.

I hiked Blue Lake in early September after the Labor Day mobs had gone back to work. The 1050 feet of elevation gain are on a very gradual trail so it was no big deal. Lovely little glacial tarn. I had hoped to see mountain goats but didn’t have any luck.
Getting a kayak out on Diablo Lake is a gorgeous paddle. You have to bring your own boat since there are no rentals on the lake. You also need to be cautious of the wind since the lake often gets very windy in the afternoon.
I hiked Ross Dam Trail to see both Ross Lake Resort and the dam itself. For someone who is afraid a height, looking down the Diablo side made my stomach lurch. An impressive dam with great views.
On another beautiful, but warm afternoon we hiked Thunder Knob Trail.
